Reinventing the Wheel.

REINVENTING THE WHEEL. Laura Loyacono. Washington, DC: National Conference of State Legislators, 1992. Illustrated, 96 pp., softcover, $25.00, (303) 830-2054.

Subtitled A Design for Student Achievement in the 21st Century, this book describes the various roles art education plays in keeping students motivated in school and educating them for the future. While published primarily as a resource for state legislators and their staffs, it is an excellent advocacy document which art educators may wish to place on the desks of local school administrators, school board members and parents. In addition to persuasive text and numerous arts-friendly quotes by decision makers from non-arts constituencies, a number of tables and charts present supportive data about art and SAT scores, state arts requirements, and other related information.
