Regulatory Commission's capacity being reinforced.

The Regulatory Energy Commission strengthened its institutional capacities in order to realize the responsibilities from the Agreement of the Energy Community, supervise better the power companies and the energy market and provide more transparency and cooperation with the institutions, enterprises and consumers, experts say.

The twinning project for institutional empowerment of the Regulatory Energy Commission has been carried out over the past 16 months by the Austrian regulatory authority for energy, Energy Control and the Agency for European Integration and Economic Development. The project relied on the expertise and experience of Energy Control as regards the liberalization of the Austrian energy market and aimed to prepare Macedonia for EU integration and implementation of the energy laws. The budget totaled 600,000 euros.

The Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Macedonia, Peter Sorensen, believes that this twinning project will prove sustainable. In his view, the twinning project produced palpable results that improved the performance of the Regulatory Energy Commission in monitoring the market and issuing licenses. That, Sorensen stressed, was of crucial importance for the functioning of the liberalized energy market.
