Holiday events this weekend: The Douglas County Fairgrounds will bustle with holiday activity this weekend, with a food, arts and crafts fair that runs Friday through Sunday.

Santa Claus also will be on hand to listen to Christmas wishes.

Hours for the fair will be noon to 8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. Call 957-7010 for details.

For a change of pace, take in the 52nd annual Winter Concert by the Roseburg Concert Chorale, featuring Handel's "Messiah." Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at the Jacoby Auditorium at Umpqua Community College. For more information, call 496-0748.

Holiday lights go on : Santa Claus - and Ms. Claus, of course - will make an appearance at 6:30 p.m. Saturday to flip the switch for the city's seventh annual Bridge Lighting Festival at the Westfir Office Bridge.

The Oakridge Methodist Church choir will sing carols starting at 6 p.m. to warm up the crowd. After the lighting ceremony, the Clauses will visit with children while cookies and hot cider are served.

Photos of children with Santa can be purchased for $3 each or two for $5. Also, a piece of chain saw art will be raffled; tickets can be purchased at the festival for $1 each or six for $5. For details, call Beth Murray at City Hall at 782-3733.


Winter celebration events set: A Christmas bazaar, jazz clinic, organ concert and jazz concert are on tap this weekend at the 16th Annual Yachats Winter Celebration.

The Yachats Ladies Club 74th Annual Christmas Bazaar & Luncheon will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. For more information, phone 547-3781.

On Sunday, Clare Fisher will conduct a two-hour jazz clinic at the Yachats Commons at 12:30 p.m. To register, or for more information, phone 563-2408.

At 4 p.m. Sunday, Inez Lush will perform an organ concert at the Little Log Church and Fisher will lead a jazz concert at the Yachats Commons at 7 p.m.
