Region's chief.

The North East's top boss for public health has been announced by the country's chief medical officer.

Sir Liam Donaldson yesterday confirmed Stephen Singleton will be the region's director of public health following the restructuring of NHS organisations in the region.

Mr Singleton will be one of nine directors across the country and will be accountable to the North East's Strategic Health Authority.

Sir Liam Donaldson said: "I am delighted to announce the appointment of the new Directors of Public Health.

"They will have a key role in leadership for public health at a regional level.
