Refined echium oil.

At the end of 2009, Bioriginal Europe/Asia BV obtained Novel Food approval for its refined echium oil. In addition to its use in cosmetics, Bioriginal's refined echium oil can now be used in food and dietary supplements. The European Commission acknowledges that Bioriginal's refined echium oil fully complies with the Novel Food legislation, meaning that the product is proven to be safe for human consumption and can be sold to the food and supplement industry in the European Union. A combination of natural omega-3, -6 and -9, Bioriginal's refined echium oil offers a unique fatty acid composition. The product can be used as a plant-based alternative to fish oils as it contains a minimum of 12% stearidonic acid (SDA), the precursor of EPA. This makes refined echium oil particularly interesting for vegetarians and vegans ... and those put off by fishy off-flavours. The oil remains taste-neutral and stable with time and, as well as SDA, it also contains the functional fatty acids, ALA (typically 33%) and GLA (typically 12%). Bioriginal is a leader in the production and distribution of high quality, innovative essential fatty acid solutions from both marine and plant sources. (www.bioriginal.com)
