Reds take on Blues for team table-tennis title.

MUSCAT Eoe1/4" Two teams of the Indian Social Club Muscat, the ISC Reds and ISC Blues have qualified to meet in the final of the team championships of the New India Assurance Open Table Tennis Tournament which will be played this evening. The team matches saw some exciting encounters.

In an engrossing quarterfinal tie, the all-Omani Nizwa Club beat Al Hassan Club 3-2 in a cliffhanger that went to the wire. In another team match, Al Rustaq Club went down to ISC Whites 3-0 while ISC Blues defeated Al Ittefaq Club of Ibra 3-1. In the first semifinal, ISC Blues overcame ISC Whites 3-1 to earn a place in the final. In the second semifinal, ISC Reds stormed into final with a 3-0 blanking of Nizwa Club.

The Rao siblings, Ajit and Jyothsna took a step closer to defending their mixed doubles title after overcoming the father-daughter duo of Nitin and Avantika Vaidya. In a thrilling semifinal match, Ajit received excellent support from his sister and the duo withstood the spirited fight put up by Nitin and Avantika to register a 12-10, 11-9, 10-12, 11-8, 9-11, 11-2 victory over the fourth seeds.

In the final to be played this evening, the Raos will take on the second seeded team of Srinivas Laxman and Swathi Jayaprakash who coasted to a 11-4, 9-11, 11-3, 11-3, 11-5 win over Anoop and Tanu Bheda.
