Red-hot Raul hits new Real record; EUROPEAN ROUND-UP.

RAUL hit his 307th goal for Real Madrid in the 2-0 win over Numancia to equal the club scoring record set by legendary Alfredo di Stefano.

And the strike star knows his hero status has now moved up to a new level.

Raul said:"I'm very happy to have equalled Di Stefano's record and I hope to pass him in the next games."

It was the Madrid captain's 214th league goal - fifth-best on the all-time list.He is also the Spanish national side's all-time leading scorer with 44 goals from 102 matches and is the all-time leading scorer in UEFA competitions with 66.

Despite Raul's goals for Real, they are still 12 points behind Barcelona in the race for this season's La Liga title.

And Barca star Lionel Messi created a record of his own last night - hitting the 5000th goal in the club's history to seal a 2-1 victory at Racing Santander.

Messi scored both goals after coming on as a second-half substitute after his side fell behind to a 56th-minute Nicolas Zigic penaly.

Barcelona finished with only nine players after Rafael Marquez and Gerard Pique were dismissed late on for second bookings.

Third-top Seville suffered a 1-0 defeat at 10-man Sporting Gijon.Diego Castro scored in 17 minutes and,despite having Roberto Canella sent offfive minutes later, Gijon held on.

In Italy,leaders Inter Milan could only draw 1-1 at home to Torino.Rolando Bianchi gave Torino a surprise lead but Nicolas Burdisso brought Jose Mourinho's team level.

Coach Mourinho said:"I understand the frustration of my players at not winning at home.But we are now seven points above Juventus - the most it's been this season."

Juve's 3-2 defeat at home to Cagliari proved costly as AC Milan's 3-0 win over Lazio last night moved them up to second above Claudio Ranieri's side.

Milan,who travel to Glasgow to play Rangers in a friendly in Wednesday night,coasted to victory with goals from Alexandre Pato, Massimo Ambrosini and Kaka.

Meanwhile, Juve president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has refused striker Amauri permission to play for Brazil in afriendly against Italy at the Emirates Stadium in London next month.

Lyon only drew 1-1 with St Etienne but remain top of the French League as closest rivals Bordeaux were held 2-2 at home to Lille.

Moussa Dembele and Mounir El Hamdaoui scored as Alkmaarbeat Sparta Rotterdam 2-0 to move nine points clear of Ajax at the top of the Dutch League.
