Red box is listed.

A VILLAGE has saved its red phone box - by having it designated a listed building.

BT had wanted to tear the old box down as part of a cost-cutting plan but now they've been told to leave it alone.

The traditional kiosk in Berwick St Mary, Wilts has been granted Grade II listed building status after a campaign by pensioner Mary Gatling.

"Our village has lost so many services, but I was determined to save this at all costs," she said.

A BT spokesman said: "Now that it's listed, it's not going anywhere. We'll continue to maintain it."
