Red alert as Maghull enjoy win.

LIVERPOOL AS Black stay on top of the Jack Purchase Spring League with three matches left.

Maghull Angling Red won the latest round on the Leeds-Liverpool Canal at Maghull and Lydiate, bringing them within six points of the leaders, while Dick Clegg Liverpool dropped back one place.

Last year's champions, Maghull Angling Blue, are languishing in sixth place 27 points off the pace.

The canal is steaming with roach and Albert Dawson (Ted Carter's Southport) landed 14lb 7oz of prime fish on punch and roach and went home pounds 215 better off.

His win came from an unlikely peg facing the high bank on the Pilling Lane side of Lollies Bridge.

Top six: Liverpool AS Black 84; Maghull Angling Red 78; Dick Clegg Liverpool 74; Liverpool AS Red 67;

Maghull Angling Blue 66; Ted Carter's Southport 57.
