Record support provided to Pennsylvania libraries by 2006-07 state budget.


A 2006-07 state budget signed by Governor Edward G. Rendell on Sunday (2 July) provides a record USD75.5m to libraries across Pennsylvania, US, an increase of USD14.1m over the prior year.

According to the Pennsylvania Office of the Governor, state funding for libraries over the last three years has provided more than 6,800 Internet-ready computers for use, free of charge; more than 94,000 community programmes, including more than 70,000 specifically for children; and more than 32m books and other library materials.

Public libraries in Pennsylvania reportedly circulated more than 63m books and other materials last year, with more than 23m of these items being borrowed by children.
