Record numbers of exhibitors, buyers & trade estimated for TIMTOS 2013.

Taipei, Sept. 11, 2012 (CENS)--The quasi-government Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) yesterday announced that the numbers of buyers, exhibitors, booths and trades will set new highs at the 24th Taipei International Machine Tool Show (TIMTOS), which will be staged on March 5-10, 2013.

TAITRA estimated the 2013 show to create US$2.2 billion worth of trades, up around 10% from 2011 edition of the show.

TITRA said some 1,000 companies have signed up for more booths than the show can offer, and estimated international buyers to surge around 20% from 2011 to 6,000 in number. Total buyers are estimated at over 47,000 for the 2013 show.

TIMTOS is ranked as the world's No. 4 and Asia's No. 2 event of its kind, trailing EMO Hannover of Germany, CIMES Beijing of mainland China, and IMTS Chicago of the United States globally.

According to the Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry (TAMI), a TIMTOS co-organizer, the 2011 show created US$2 billion of trade volume, accounting for approximately two thirds of Taiwan's exports of machine tools in that year.

Taiwan is already the world's No. 6 machine tool supplier, with production value rising 35% from 2010 to US$5.26 billion in 2011. Taiwan's machine tool exports reached US$4 billion in 2011, after only Japan, Germany and Italy.

The lingering European debt crisis and slipping markets in mainland China hit Taiwan's machine tool industry in the first half of this year. But industry executives expected the market to begin rebounding in the second half of 2013 after hitting bottom in the fourth quarter of 2012.
