Record View: Vision of hope.

GORDON Brown will today set out his vision for a Scotland where every child has a chance to get on in life.

Scotland, he will say, must set world-class standards in education so there is no limit to the hopes, ambitions and chances of our kids.

It is a vision which combines Brown's passion for fairness and social justice with a hardheaded assessment of what the country must do to compete with the rest of the world in the years to come.

It is a vision which is not beyond our reach.

But, as Brown recognises, too many kids are still born to fail.

And we must start by helping the thousands of no-hope jobless teenagers.

That's why the Executive's deal with Microsoft to co-ordinate an army of volunteers to help train and inspire kids is to be welcomed.

It should be a big step towards realising the potential of all our young people.
