Recognition for historic trophy treble.

SCHOOL Team of the Year simply had to go to Birmingham Metropolitan College's all-conquering football team.

The college's sports academy claimed a historic treble this year, becoming the county, league and national champions.

This unprecedented feat led the side to Team of the Year at the BMET Sports Academy Awards in June.

The accolades add to the prestigious College of the Year gong awarded in the last academic year by British Colleges Sport and the Association of Colleges.

The college's ladies football team were not far behind in terms of success on the pitch, claiming runner-up alongside the Under 14 gymnastics team at Edgbaston High School.

The BMC girls enjoyed a record-breaking season.

They won the British College Sport National College Football League's top division, scoring an astonishing 70 goals along the way while conceding only 11, a league record.

For good measure, they became the British College Sport National Futsal champions in June and are unbeaten in the regional qualifiers this season scoring 30 goals and conceding only one.

Edgbaston High School's gymnasts, who meet once a week to train for a minimum of two hours, are the British Schools West Midlands Champions.

They recently finished sixth out of 12 teams at the national finals and boast among their group the Birmingham Schools under 12 and under 14 champions.
