Recent NATO partners' meeting boosts cooperation -- envoy.

BRUSSELS, Jan 27 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Ambassador to Belgium, Head of the mission to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) and the European Union (EU) Jassim Al-Bdaiwi praised on Saturday results of Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI) Policy Advisory Group Meeting. The meeting took place at NATO-Kuwait ICI Regional Center in the Gulf country on January 22-23. He added in remarks to KUNA today that this meeting aimed at evaluating the cooperation framework of ICI and means of boosting coordination among the member states. The ICI meeting was held in its fourth session. It was hosted by Kuwait for the second time since 2015. Kuwait's hosting of the meeting reflected its commitment to the partnership with NATO by continuing negotiations among all sides at all levels, he added. Kuwait is communicating with NATO via two levels; the bilateral and multilateral tracks. The diplomat added that this meeting was the first such event organized by NATO-Kuwait ICI Regional Center, indicating that it hosted previously a meeting of the North Atlantic Council (NAC) and ICI member countries in 2017. Such meetings contribute to boosting dialogue between NATO and ICI member states in fields of arms non-proliferation, holding diplomatic events and enhancing military communication between both sides, he said. NATO-Kuwait ICI Regional Center, which commenced its activities last year in cooperation with local bodies, will cooperate this year with ICS states and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries on various issues of common interest. The meeting was attended by the NATO Deputy Secretary General, Ambassador Alexander Vershbow, 29 NATO and ICI members, namely: Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the UAE, as well as officials from non-member states, namely Saudi Arabia and Oman, as well as GCC Secretariat General.
