SIMSBURY, CT Rebecca Grayce (Henry) Leiby died peacefully February
3, 2010. Becky was born June 8, 1914, in Worcester, Massachusetts, to
James and Margaret Titus Henry. She graduated from Vassar College with a
degree in French and worked at radio station WTAG and Worcester Academy
before her marriage to Kenneth Llewellyn Leiby. As an Army wife in
Georgia, Virginia, and Munich, Germany, she was an energetic hostess who
did not hesitate to become involved in her new communities and her
children's schools and activities, to explore the cuisine and
culture of her new environments, and to hone her needlepoint and
dressmaking skills. After retiring to Simsbury, Connecticut, in 1962,
she and her husband designed the floor plan for their home where she
worked endless hours establishing flower beds, canning and freezing the
harvests of their vegetable garden, and preparing bounteous meals for
all who came to visit. She volunteered with the Simsbury Visiting Nurses
Association and when she moved to Essex, Connecticut, in 1989, she
scheduled the shelvers at the Essex Public Library and served on Council
at Essex Meadows. Her family includes her son, Kenneth Llewllyn Leiby
and his wife Linda Ucko of Short Hills, New Jersey, and children Kathryn
Beck and Jake Kenneth Llewllyn; and her daughter Margaret Perkins and
her husband Kenneth James of Columbia, South Carolina, and children
Amanda Grayce and Margaret Elizabeth McClinton and her husband Coy. The
family would like to thank her extended family at Essex Meadows who have
supported her with laughter, good food, and patient, gentle care. A
celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
