Read For 2003. (News).

Next month, millions of people around the world will celebrate the power of books. How? By taking part in Read For 2003, the largest classroom reading event ever.

Sponsored by Scholastic Book Clubs, Read For 2003 asks individuals in different communities to spend time reading together. At noon on December 6, 2002, kids, teachers, and parents will gather and read for 2,003 seconds--that's about 33 1/3 minutes! Last year, more than 7 million kids took part.

"Reading can expose you to things you've never known before, to worlds you've never seen," says singer Alicia Keys. She will join other stars participating this year.
