Reaction may be an allergy EVERYONE reacts badly to food sometimes. But persistent reactions to the same kind of food may be a sign of an intolerance or even an allergy.
Intolerance occurs when the body has difficulty digesting a particular food. Sufferers can be intolerant of many things including nuts, milk, eggs, soya, fish and some fruits.
Research by the charity Allergy UK suggests 45% of the population suffers from chronic illnesses related to food intolerance.
People who eat the "wrong" foods weaken their own immune system, leaving them open to illnesses such as irritable bowel syndrome.
The symptoms range from acne to depression and Allergy UK estimates it costs society more than pounds 1bn a year in terms of lost work days and treatment.
