Raytheon Wins $255 Million AMRAAM Contract
LEXINGTON, Mass., March 24 /PRNewwire/ --Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) has been awarded a $255.3 million contract to produce 490 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAMs).
The award encompasses 55 percent of the 891 missiles the U.S. government is purchasing for U.S. Air Force and Navy inventories.
Raytheon will perform the work, scheduled to be completed by November 1994, at its Missile Systems Division manufacturing plant in Lowell, Mass.
"The award is a tribute to the progress and performance of Raytheon's Lowell plant and AMRAAM production team over the past year and reflects a high degree of government confidence in the quality of Raytheon missiles and our ability to perform," said Charles Mitchum, Raytheon's AMRAAM program manager.
"AMRAAM is a growing program with a large U.S. market and potentially large foreign market. Raytheon will be a major participant in future competitions for total market requirements."
AMRAAM is a radar-guided air-to-air missile. It has a launch-and-leave capability that enables a pilot to fire multiple AMRAAMs against enemy targets, then leave the area as the missiles home in on the targets.
Raytheon Company, headquartered in Lexington, Mass., is a diversified, international, technology-based company active in electronics, energy and environmental services, aviation and appliances.
