Ravi Karunanayake To Receive Back His Position in the UNP and Portfolio.

Colombo, Dec. 8 -- UNP MP Ravi Karunanayake is to be made Party's Deputy Leader-and later on he is to be made Finance Minister, a portfolio he held earlier.

In August 2017, Karunanayake MP resigned as Foreign Minister after it was alleged that he was involved in a scandal -an allegation that emerged as a result of Sri Lanka Presidential Commission of Inquiry on Bond Issuance. 32 MPs from the Joint Opposition handed over a motion of no confidence against Ravi Karnanayake MP on 3 August to the Speaker.

Prior to his appointment as Foreign Minister Karunanayake MP was the Finance Minister under the same government.

After resigning from the portfolio, Karunanayake MP kept a low profile but after UNP Leader Wickremesinghe was deposed by President Sirisena on 26 October, he began to reappear in UNP stages more publicly.

He is currently working closely with the leadership of UNP and has again entered into active politics for the sake of the Party's future.

Political sources in Colombo said that UNP Leader Wickremesinghe has given a written pledge to Karunanayake that he would be appointed as Deputy Leader-and later on to be made the Finance Minister.
