One of the world's largest - and smelliest - flowers began blossoming at Berlin's botanical gardens on Saturday, dpa quoted staff as confirming. The Titan Arum, which grows naturally in Indonesia and Sumatra, releases the smell of decomposing flesh as it flowers - an act which lasts around three days and only happens once every few years. The Berlin specimen, which measures almost two metres, inched open at midday onSaturday releasing its gross smell, aimed at attracting flies which pollinate the plant. The plant in Berlin's botanical gardens features a red ruffled ring of petal around a central stalk. It last flowered in 2009. Technically, the world's largest individual flower is the Rafflesia, while the Titan Arum consists of a cluster of many flowers.
