Ranieri's road leads home to Roma at last.

CLAUDIO RANIERI has taken over as AS Roma manager following Luciano Spalletti's sudden resignation.

Ranieri (above), known as the Tinkerman during his time at Chelsea for his constant team changes, was sacked by Juventus in May.

The Rome-born boss, who started his playing career with Roma, said: "It's a great satisfaction for me, the crowning point of a dream and a professional road that began many years ago.

"I'm honoured and convinced I can do and give my best for Roma."

Spalletti ended his fouryear stint in charge after the Giallorossi lost 3-1 against Juve on Sunday, following a 3-2 defeat at Genoa.

Italy boss Marcello Lippi said: "I was convinced Roma and Spalletti had a very strong bond. I'm surprised."
