Ralph D. Hesselton, 81.

MARLBOROUGH Ralph D. Hesselton, 81, of Marlborough died Saturday (June 28, 2008) at E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford after an illness.

He leaves his wife, Helen (Sherman) Hesselton; three sons, Garey A. Hesselton of Coatesville, PA, Randy W. Hesselton of Jeffersonville, MA and Scott D. Hesselton of Northborough; three brothers, Alton E. Hesselton of Worcester, Robert F. Hesselton of Worcester and David L. Hesselton of Virginia; a sister, Athlyn A. Fontaine of CT. Also leaves 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his dear friends and caregivers, Regina G. Berger and Brenda R. Hanson-Zablan of Marlborough. He was the father of the late Donald T. Hesselton who died in 1993 and brother of the late William G. Hesselton, Richard R. Hesselton, Mildred E. Starvaski, Florence A. Hesselton, Elaine R. Adams, Clarence H. Hesselton, Beatrice M. Sanders and Betty Ann Start.

He was born in Worcester, son of the late Russell C. and Ethel A. (Gilmore) Hesselton and was educated at the Worcester Boys Trade School.

He was both a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and also a U.S.M.C. veteran of the Korean War.

For over 30 years he worked as a mason for the Bricklayers Union of Worcester and also was a policeman for the town of Northborough and served as the dispatcher of the police department, as well as serving as an E.M.T for the Town Ambulance service.

He was a life member of the D.A.V. Chapter 82 of Marlborough and also served as Junior Vice for the State Chapter of the D.A.V. He was a volunteer worker at the West Roxbury V.A. Hospital and served as a transportation representative. He was awarded a certificate of appreciation for all his hours of volunteering at UMass Memorial Healthcare, 55 Lake Ave. North, Worcester.

Following cremation, a funeral service will be held at 11 A.M on Saturday, July 12, 2008 in the John P. Rowe Funeral Home, Inc., 57 Main St., Marlborough, MA. Burial with military honors will be held on Monday July 14, 2008 at 11 A.M at the V.A. National Cemetery in Bourne, MA. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Salvatore Padula Chapter 82 of the D.A.V., P.O Box 229, 255 Main St., Marlborough, MA 01752.
