Rail traffic suspended as bogies derail.

RAHIM YAR KHAN -- Rail traffic was suspended on the Up track near Chak 78-P Taranda Sawaye Khan, some 7km from here, on Tuesday evening when eight bogies of a goods train derailed.

According to Station Master Manzoor Mashoori, a goods train was en route to Daudkhel from Karachi. When it reached near Taranda Sawaye Khan railway station its four bogies derailed.

Taranda Sawaye Khan Assistant Station Master Muhammad Asif said the accident happened due to dilapidated condition of bridge number 420. The bogies derailed when the train was crossing that bridge, which suspended rail traffic on the Up track. He claimed traffic would be restored after five to six hours.

According to locals, the accident was so severe that the wheels of many bogies came off and almost 250-metre portion of the track was damaged. Rescue activities had not started till filing of this report.

Pakistan Railways spokesman Najam Wali Khan did not respond to requests for an official statement.
