By ZHOB, March 30, 2010 (Balochistan Times): Civil society has an important role to play for protection of the rights of children. The government is working to raise a force of 4,000 volunteers for the protection of human rights. These an other similar views were expressed by Federal Minister for Human Rights Mumtaz Alam Gilani and Norwegian ambassador to Pakistan Robert Kvile on the occasion of Best Volunteer Special Mention Award 2009 ceremony organized by SAHIL a non-governmental organization working against child sexual abuse, at Hotel Marriot Islamabad. Hundreds of people from all shades of life participated in the ceremony. Best Volunteer Special Mention awards went to Hidayatullah Leghari from Sanghar Sindh, Rafiullah Mandokhail from Zhob Balochistan, Zafar Ali Shah from Lower Dir N.W.F.P and Irfan Hussain Joyia from Bahawalpur Punjab for taking active part in disseminating masses developed specially for children about body protection. Program Officer Robina Shams said that child sexual abuse indicated 9.5% increase in 2009. According to reports there were 2012 cases of child sexual abuse reported last year in Pakistan. It shows that 3.3% children abused in Pakistan per day. It increased 9.4% compared with 2008 figure. 68% of the victims were girls while 32% boys.
