Radius Ships ThunderPower 30/1920 Graphics Card Capable of Super Resolution 1920 x 1080 and Billions of Colors.

NEW ORLEANS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 5, 1996--Radius Inc. (Nasdaq: RDUSC) announces the immediate availability of their new ThunderPower 30/1920 graphics card for PCI-based Mac OS computers. Radius' new graphics card combines a variety of features, including enhanced Super Resolution 1920 x 1080, and 30-bit full color graphics at every resolution (30-bit capabilities require Radius ProSense Display Calibrator). Radius 30-bit graphics capabilities provide the color publisher with a palette of billions of vivid colors for the most realistic on screen color representation yet. The new graphics card provides a wide range of resolution choices from 640 x 480 up to enhanced Super Resolution, 1920 X 1080. In addition, on board QuickDraw acceleration, Pan and Zoom hardware capabilities, on-the-fly bit-depth resolution switching, make the ThunderPower 30/1920 a feature rich, best-of-breed graphics card for the color publishing professional.

HARDWARE FEATURES

-- Up to 1920 x 1080 Super Resolution offers customers the clearest, sharpest, highest detailed images available. Displays up to 92% more information and colors than the highest resolutions provided by standard two-page 1152 x 870 graphics. The 1920 x 1080 Super Resolution will provide 107% more image space with HDTV WideScreen (16 x 9) support for next generation monitors.

-- 96-bit QuickColor Graphic Acceleration provides QuickDraw acceleration of scrolls, zooms, and onscreen graphics.

-- ChromaFlow 30-bit Technology increases color accuracy by providing a palette of more than 1 billion colors to choose from, when used in conjunction with Radius' ProSense Display Calibrator.

-- Dynamic Desktop Software enables hot-key resolution and bit-depth switching on-the-fly as well as hardware pan and zoom.

-- High-Performance PCI interface minimizes the bus bottleneck so that graphics acceleration can be maximized.

Radius' Super Resolution of 1600 x 1200, in 24-bit mode, nearly doubles the maximum built-in video resolution of 1152 x 870 available on some high-end Macintosh and Power Macintosh systems. ThunderPower 30/1920 also offers enhanced resolution support for HDTV (16 x 9) aspect ratio monitors. Super resolution displays 1600 x 1200 displays 92 percent more pixels which provides creative professionals with the greatest image detail, smoother graphics and maximum desktop area available on the Macintosh today. Super Resolution will dramatically enhance the professional's view of intricate Quark, Illustrator, Acrobat and Freehand documents. The Super Resolution feature of the ThunderPower is designed to complement Radius' line of high resolution monitors, the PressView 17 SR and PressView 21 SR. The combination of these products results in the ultimate color desktop solution that delivers the fastest drawing speed, greater desktop workspace, and accurate color matching for greater performance and productivity.

The ThunderPower graphics card incorporates ChromaFlow technology, which allows users access to a 30-bit color palette providing them with a palette of more than one billion colors. ChromaFlow technology eliminates banding and displays subtle nuances in shadows and highlights more accurately. Making the ThunderPower 30/1920 ideal for photo retouching, medical and scientific image processing, where color accuracy is critical. This feature is available when used in conjunction with Radius' ProSense Display Cablibrator.

Unlike other graphics cards that use pan and zoom functions built into some software applications, Radius incorporated pan and zoom capabilities into the hardware, which increases the performance of these functions for the ThunderPower 30/1920. Hardware pan and zoom instantly magnifies the screen image up to eight times for easier viewing of small detail areas.

Radius' Dynamic Desktop software enables users to change resolution and bit-depth on the fly without having to reboot or re-launch applications. The easy-to-use pull-down menu and hot keys option allows creative professionals using the ThunderPower graphics card to navigate quickly and easily through complex documents and images using the lightning fast hardware pan and zoom function.

The ThunderPower 30/1920 is fully compatible with a wide variety of displays, supporting both horizontal and vertical sync, and sync on green. This feature eliminates the need to purchase a new display that only understands horizontal and vertical sync.
