Racist Rangers fan called cop a n****r.

Byline: STUART MACDONALD reporters@dailyrecord.co.uk

A RANGERS fan who hurled racist abuse at a policeman has been cleared of breaking football hate laws.

Dad-of-one William Taylor, 28, from Fairlie, Ayrshire, called PC Mykola Tomaszczuk "Muhammad" and "n****r" in the outburst near a train station after Hamilton Accies played Rangers in December.

Officers found out he had a ticket for the match and had previously had a football banning order. They charged him under the Offensive Behaviour at Football Act despite the fact that he had watched the game in a pub in Hamilton.

Taylor denied the charge at Hamilton Sheriff Court. He was cleared after a trial but was instead convicted of a racial breach of the peace and ordered to do 250 hours of unpaid work.
