Racing people: Barrows man should soon have wheels; Focus on those at the heart of the action.

NICKY HENDERSON'S widely respected head groom Corky Browne is so anxious to return to work after a knee replacement that the trainer is about to invest in a 'Pope-mobile' to whisk him between yards at Seven Barrows.

Browne (right), who has been with Henderson since he started training 30 years ago, had surgery a month ago and is undergoing intensive physiotherapy, including workouts in the Lambourn gym.

In his absence at evening stables, Fred Winter's former head groom Brian Delaney has been standing in as the stable's leg man.

Browne had his first day out since the operation when going to Huntingdon last week, specifically to watch The Polomoche make a winning debut over hurdles.

He said: "The Polomoche was the horse I tipped up as one to follow in the Racing Post's Stable Tour in November. I was impressed with the way he quickened in that very testing ground.

"Believe me, he'll improve by at least a stone."
