1985 Slip Anchor gained one of the most impressive Derby victories ever seen at Epsom.

The 9-4 favourite was sent to the front from the off by Steve Cauthen and never looked likely to be caught.

He passed the post fully seven lengths clear of runner-up Law Society, who was in turn six lengths clear of third-placed Damister.

Slip Anchor was the first horse to make all the running in the Derby since Coronach 59 years p r ev ous y.
