Racing: Kempton takes Victor Chandler.

To conspiracy theorists, it might seem that someone, somewhere, doesn't want the 1999 Victor Chandler Chase to be run.

Six days after being washed out by persistent rain, the Grade Two event found another element against it yesterday as it fell to thick fog at Ascot.

A meeting of minds, however - including the British Horseracing Board's Race Planning Committee, the Levy Board, BBC, Channel 4 and United Racecourses - resulted in the race taking place at Kempton at 2.35pm today, to be screened live on Channel Four Rac ing, with a recording on the BBC's Grandstand.
