Racing: French Holly wins at Wetherby.

FRENCH HOLLY set off down the GoldCup trail with an easy win at Wetherby yesterday, but there will be tougher races than this on the long road to Cheltenham.

Just one slight mistake marredFrench Holly's success, but both trainer Ferdy Murphy and jockey Andrew Thornton were well pleased with the horse's convincing opening show.

"I had to make the running because therewas no gallop and hitting one fence would not do him any harm as he knows what to expect in future," said the jockey.

"French Holly wasn't a natural jumper inhis early days over hurdles, but he has learnt all the time. We can go on from here," said Murphy. Graham Bradley will retire at his local track, Wetherby, today only if Senor El Betrutti wins the Totty Construction Group plc Handicap Chase.
