Racing: Empire's second chance.

EPSOM Derby flop Second Empire will reappear in the ten-furlong Eclipse Stakes at Sandown on July 4.

Trainer Aidan O'Brien confirmed yesterday that Michael Tabor's colt has recovered from his Epsom exertions and, after a short break, will be prepared for a clash with his older rivals in the Group 1 event at Sandown.

"Second Empire seems well and I think he will continue to progress and improve with racing through the season. The 'Eclipse' looks the most suitable target for him now."

O'Brien will finalise his Royal Ascot plans after work at Ballydoyle tomorrow morning, but intends running Irish Guineas fourth Bianconi in either the Cork And Orrery Stakes or Jersey Stakes.

Meanwhile, Tumbleweed Ridge gave Irish-born trainer Brian Meehan and jockey

Michael Tebbutt their first success in Ireland when making all to upset hot-pots Wizard King and Burden Of Proof in the Group 3 Ballycorus Stakes at Leopardstown last night.

Tebbutt dictated a slow early pace, quickened the tempo turning into the straight and held compatriot Wizard King by a length with Burden Of Proof two lengths away third.
