Racing: Desmond set for success.

Byline: ARGUS

SIR DESMOND can put an unlucky run behind him and bounce back to form in the ladbrokes. com Handicap as the three-day Celebration Mile meeting gets underway at Goodwood today.

Rae Guest's charge failed to find a gap in the greys-only handicap at Newmarket last time but ample compensation awaits at the Sussex track.

Seb Sanders was searching in vain for room in the final two furlongs but it never came and he had to accept the situation in the closing stages.

However, Sir Desmond was not given a hard time when his chance had gone and he most certainly would have done much better with a clear passage.

This is a horse that admittedly needs everything to fall right for him but he has proved he can handle easy ground in the past and he looks sure to play a leading role.

John Gosden's lightly-raced three-year-old Cape Vincent stamped himself as a horse with a future when he hacked up by four lengths in a Salisbury maiden a fortnight ago.

He has not been overburdened by the assessor and can progress again in the Racing Post Rated Stakes.

He led well over a furlong out in that seven-furlong contest and was going away at the finish.

Cape Vincent had shown distinct promise in his only two outings as a juvenile and was sent off at odds-on at Salisbury on the strength of that.

Any sort of improvement would put him one step clear of the handicapper and the step up to nine furlongs should suit after what was his first run for the best part of a year.

Sendintank makes a quick reappearance after winning at Yarmouth earlier this week and he looks more than capable of taking the Breheny Handicap at Newmarket.
