Racing: Aintree Preview.

Byline: Larry LYNX

BE a Smarty at Aintree today and follow the horses for courses theory in the Tote Becher Handicap Chase.

This marathon test is over the Grand National fences and Smarty (2.40) certainly knows his way round having finished runner-up to Red Marauder in this year's big race.

Trainer Mark Pitman has the eight-year-old well primed, getting him match- fit with an easy victory over hurdles at Plumpton earlier this month.

Pitman could have cause for a double celebration as he has a fine chance of winning Plumpton's richest race, the Sussex National Handicap, with Cimarrone Cove (2.15).

The six-year-old had his first outing for nine months when third to Menesonic at Sandown a fortnight ago and missed an engagement at Ascot yesterday for a tilt at this valuable chaser.

Back at Aintree, the Nicky Henderson-Mick Fitzgerald combination could well have a first and last race double with Better Days (12.35) and Calling Brave (3.45).
