Racial diversity of police recognised.

WEST Midlands Police has been named among the best employers in Britain for promoting racial diversity in its workforce.

The force was named fourth-best public sector employer out of 79 major organisations across the country in a survey compiled by the charity Race for Opportunity.

Director of personnel for West Midlands Police David Williams said the recognition was the result of years of proactive work in the communities. He said: "For West Midlands Police diversity is crucial on two main counts - the public and communities we serve - and the representation within our workforce. There is much work still to be done in community engagement, public confidence and ensuring the progression for women and ethnic minority colleagues."
