Race-attack Asians killed white with foot-long knife.

Byline: Charlie Hamilton

Three Asian men were yesterday found guilty of murdering a white teenager in what police believe was an unprovoked race attack.

Ross Parker, aged 17, was beaten and stabbed through the throat with a foot-long hunting knife while walking home through Peterborough with his girlfriend in the early hours.

Shaied Nazir (22), Ahmed Ali Awan (22), and Sarfraz Ali (25) all of Peterborough, denied the charges but were yesterday found guilty of murdering the teenager by the jury of eight men and four women jury at Northampton Crown Court.

The murder took place just days after the September 11 terrorist attacks in America and occurred while there was racial tension between the Asian and white communities in Peterborough.

Det Chief Insp Dick Harrison, who led the murder hunt, said he believed the killing of the teenager, of Bozeat Way, Peterborough, was racially motivated.

Describing the attack as 'cold blooded', Mr Justice Jowett said he believed Awan was the ringleader of the gang and sentenced him to 18 years in prison before parole could be considered. Awan and Ali both denied they were present during the attack.

The gang went out drinking at the Liquid Night Club in New Street before they returned to a garage at the rear of Nazir's house.

Mr Harrison said: 'It is our guess that they got back to the shed, picked up their weapons and went out looking for a victim'.

Ross and girlfriend Nicky Toms, who has since married and is named Foot, were ambushed by the gang at around 1.15am on September 21 last year.

The court was told Nazir attacked first, spraying CS gas in the face of the teenager. Blinded and disorientated, Ross was then punched and hit with a panel beater's hammer before he was stabbed in the chest and then through the back of the neck.

Pathologist Dr Nat Cary described how the knife had been pushed with such force through Mr Parker's neck that the blade exited at the front of his throat.

A fourth man, Ziaraff Mahrad (21) was found not guilty of murder and manslaughter.
