Race slurs case woman lodges pounds 200,000 claim; Global expert accused of harassment.
ALEADING North East university is at the centre of a pounds 200,000 race row involving a former PhD student. Dr Hadil Bakir claims she suffered abuse at the hands of her supervisor while studying at Durham University's world-leading department of human molecular genetics.
She alleges Dr Rumaisa Bashir, below, who is a global expert on the adult onset of muscular dystrophy, subjected her to harassment, including physical attacks and racial slurs.
As a result, says Dr Bakir, she went on to develop bulimia and depression.
She is suing the university on the grounds that senior staff failed to protect her. Full story: Page 7
