RYLEE JOINS CLARUS MEDICAL BOARD OF DIRECTORS

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Clarus Medical Systems, Inc., an orthopedic endoscope manufacturer and marketer, today announced that Robert T. Rylee (62) has been elected to the board of directors.
Rylee, recently retired from Dow Corning Corporation (Midland, Mich.), was a corporate vice president and chairman of the Health Care Businesses, which included Dow Corning Wright (Memphis, Tenn.), a subsidiary of Dow Corning Corporation, that was involved in orthopedic product markets. Rylee was with Wright since 1968 and prior to that was in law practice.
"We are extremely pleased that Bob consented to join our board," said Whitney A. McFarlin, Clarus president and chief executive officer. "His breadth of experience will be very useful as we introduce our innovative endoscopic products into orthopedic markets."
"I'm very excited about what I see at Clarus," Rylee said. "After more than 25 years in orthopedics, I've seen a lot of changes in the field. Yet nothing has been more exciting than the visualization, small size and flexibility of the Clarus products. They have great capabilities which will be of substantial benefit to the patient and the surgeon."
A native Texan, Rylee joined a private law practice in 1958 after graduating from the University of Texas (Austin) law school. In 1968 he joined Wright Manufacturing Company as vice president and general counsel and became president of that company in 1972. He retained the presidency of Wright after its acquisition by Dow Corning Corporation in 1977. In 1981 he became a Dow Corning vice president and was named the general manager of all Dow Corning health care businesses. In 1991 he was named chairman of the Dow Corning health care businesses.
Rylee served as the president of the Orthopedic Surgical Manufacturers Association from 1970 to 1978 and was a director of the Health Industry Manufacturers Association from 1988 to 1991. He also graduated from the Advanced Management Program of the Harvard Business School in 1980.
Rylee will replace Robert T. Curry of The Sprout Group, a venture capital investor, on the Clarus Board.
Based in Plymouth, Minn., a Minneapolis suburb, Clarus Medical Systems, Inc. is a designer, manufacturer and marketer of endoscopic orthopedic surgical products for use in many spinal and small joint procedures.
