RYDER SPONSORS SEVENTH ANNUAL TEXAS AVIATION MAINTENANCE COMPETITION

DALLAS, March 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas' best student aircraft mechanics will demonstrate their skills during the Seventh Annual Aviation Maintenance Competition, sponsored by Ryder Airline Services and Ryder Aviall at Dallas Love Field, Saturday, April 3.
Top three contestants from each of the state's 13 Airframe & Powerplant schools will compete for overall and individual event honors in four categories: general aviation subjects, airframe, powerplants and electronics. Students will perform three tasks from each major category. The hands-on situations and projects must be completed within a designated time frame. School instructors are also given the opportunity to show their flexibility, ingenuity and talent in an event called operation CHAOS, in which they are given a bench full of various mechanical parts and told to create a working device.
Following an evening reception April 2, the competition will be held April 3 at Ryder Aviall's fixed based operation, in hangar C of Love Field.
Arnold Oliver, executive director of the Texas Department of Transportation, will be the guest speaker at the April 3 awards banquet, which will be at the Sheraton Hotel, 1893 W. Mockingbird Lane. The winning students will receive awards and prizes, donated by aviation industry companies.
Ryder's aviation companies, based in Dallas, have been sponsoring the student competition the past three years. The annual event promotes cooperation and professionalism in the aviation industry.
