RYDER PROMOTES TWO SENIOR OPERATING EXECUTIVES

 MIAMI, Dec. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Two senior Ryder operating executives have been promoted, it was announced here today by Ryder System (NYSE: R) Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer M. Anthony Burns.
 Dwight D. Denny, executive vice president and general manager- commercial leasing & services was promoted to president-Ryder Commercial Leasing & Services, and Gerald R. Riordan, senior vice president and general manager-consumer rental, was promoted to president-Ryder Consumer Truck Rental. Both men had been in their current positions since July 1991, when Ryder streamlined the organization of its Vehicle Leasing & Services Division. Denny and Riordan will continue to report to Burns, as will Larry S. Mulkey, president-Ryder Distribution Resources, Inc.
 Denny joined Ryder in 1969 as a management trainee in Miami. He was promoted to district rental manager in Hickory, N.C. in 1970 and then became an account manager at that same location. He later held the position of district manager in Richmond, Va. and Greensboro, N.C. He became region manager in northern California in 1981 and was promoted to region vice president in Tennessee in 1985. He was elected senior vice president and general manger-central area in December 1990 and senior vice president and general manager-eastern area in March 1991. He became executive vice president and general manger-commercial leasing and services in July 1991.
 Denny holds a bachelor of business administration degree from the University of North Carolina.
 Riordan joined Ryder in 1972 and held increasingly responsible positions in the areas of operations analysis and marketing, including director-One Way pricing and inventory control, director-One Way marketing, and director-One Way and trailer pool operations. He was elected vice president-rental in January 1983. In January 1988 he became vice president-quality, and in December 1990 he was elected senior vice president-rental and quality. He became senior vice president and general manager-consumer rental in July 1991.
 A native of Lyndonville, N.Y., Riordan holds a bachelor's degree in commerce from Niagara University and an MBA degree in marketing and economics from the University of Miami.
