RUST INTERNATIONAL ANNOUNCES ELECTION OF HOLSTEN AS VICE PRESIDENT, CFO AND TREASURER

 BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Rust International Inc. (NYSE: RST) today announced that Joseph M. Holsten has been elected as vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer of Rust International. In this position, Holsten will have responsibility for financial reporting, investor relations, internal controls and treasury- related functions for the Rust family of companies which was formed in January, 1993 as a result of a merger of several environmentally oriented subsidiaries of parent company, WMX Technologies, Inc. (formerly named Waste Management, Inc.) of Oak Brook, Ill. He assumes the responsibilities previously handled by James E. Koenig, who will continue as a director of Rust International Inc. and senior vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer of WMX Technologies.
 Prior to joining Rust, Holsten served in a variety of financial management positions within the WMX Technologies organization since joining the company in 1981. Most recently he served as vice president of acquisitions and project development for Waste Management International plc, headquartered in London.
 With over 15,000 employees world-wide, Birmingham-based Rust International is a leading provider of environmental and infrastructure consulting, engineering, construction, environmental restoration and specialty on-site industrial services. In May, Rust common shares began trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "RST."
