RUSSIAN STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN VISA-SPONSORED AD COMPETITION
SAN FRANCISCO, March 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Students from Moscow State University in Russia will develop an advertising campaign to help Visa market credit cards and promote responsible credit use to Russian adults as part of an American Advertising Federation (AAF) competition sponsored by Visa.
Moscow State's participation in the 1992 AAF College World Series of Advertising marks the first time Russian students have taken part in the annual collegiate competition. Although the Moscow State team will not compete directly with U.S. university teams, the Russian students will present their exhibition campaign at the June 13 national finals during the AAF National Advertising Conference in Portland, Ore.
Student teams from more than 200 AAF college chapters across the United States, Canada, and Australia will participate in the competition, with the challenge of creating an ad campaign to help Visa promote responsible credit use and build brand loyalty among young people. Fifteen regional semifinalists will advance to the national finals.
"We're thrilled that Moscow State University has chosen to get involved in the College World Series of Advertising and share their ideas with American students and with Visa," said Jan Soderstrom, senior vice president of advertising and promotions, Visa U.S.A. "The new Commonwealth of Independent States is a very important market for Visa, so it will be especially exciting for us to get recommendations from these students."
Visa is the world's largest consumer payment system with more than 275 million cards issued worldwide, including 140 million in the United States.
The American Advertising Federation, with 52,000 affiliate members including 6,500 college students, is the only national association encompassing and representing all aspects and disciplines of the advertising industry.
