RURAL/METRO CORPORATION FILES INITIAL PUBLIC OFFERING OF 1,800,000 COMMON SHARES WITH SEC

 SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., May 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Rural/Metro Corporation announced today it filed a registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission covering a proposed initial public offering of 1,800,000 shares of common stock. Of the total, 1,710,000 are being offered by the company and 9,000 by the company's ESOP.
 William Blair & Company and Furman Selz Incorporated will co-manage the underwriting group. The offering is expected in mid-July at an estimated price of $11.00 to $13.00 per share.
 Proceeds to the company will be used to repay debt and for general corporate purposes, including potential acquisitions.
 Headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona, Rural/Metro Corporation provides ambulance services, fire protection services and other safety related services to municipal, residential, commercial and industrial customers. The company is the largest private-sector provider of fire protection services and the fourth largest private-sector provider of ambulance services in the United States.
 A registration statement relating to these securities has been filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission but has not yet become effective.
