RUGBY UNION: DOUBLE HIT; RUGBY ROUND-UP.

ABERAVON and Pontypool, the top two teams in the first division of the Welsh National league, both went on the rampage yesterday to crush their opponents Llanharan and Merthyr respectively.

Each of them scored 14 tries and 88 points and allowed their rivals just one try apiece.

ABERAVON hammered LLANHARAN 88-7 with Sam Greenaway leading the way with four touch downs. While PONTYPOOL took advantage of MERTHYR's major off-pitch problems to romp home by 88-5.

Third-placed NEWBRIDGE lost 19-13 at TONDU, Carl Hocking scoring twice.
