RUGBY LEAGUE: CROOKS RESIGNS.

Byline: LEE WEST

ACADEMY coach Martin Flynn has taken charge of bottom club York Wasps for tomorrow's final Premiership home game against title-chasing Widnes following the sudden resignation of Lee Crooks.

Former Great Britain forward Crooks, who was coach to the Yorkshire team for this month's inaugural Origin Game, quit the struggling club after failing to receive assurances over his future.

"Lee's contract expires on July 7 and he was hoping that it would be renewed for next season," said York chief executive Ann Garvey.

"Unfortunately, we are not financially in a position to be able to offer any guarantees. We couldn't give him an answer so he resigned."

Crooks has been battling all season with a threadbare squad and even came out of retirement to play for the club at the height of their crisis.

The Wasps suffered a 92-2 hammering at Featherstone last week, their 17th straight defeat.
