RTA to launch personalised number plates.
Set to be launched by the end of first quarter of 2013, the Roads and Transport Authority's (RTA) new initiative will provide an opportunity for residents to display their likes.
Enthusiasts will be able to choose from a selection of landmarks as well as cultural and historical monuments, apart from sports clubs.
A customer can hold a personalised number plate for a duration of five years after which he will have to pay again to renew the contract.
Well-known Dubai landmarks expected to be included are the Burj Al Arab and Emirates Towers -- although the list has yet to be finalised.
"It is intended to offer an opportunity for vehicle owners to pronounce their interests, inclinations and aspirations through picturesque images of Dubai icons, which will also enhance the concept of number plates," said Ahmad Hashem Behroozian, CEO of RTA's Licensing Agency.
Motorists can apply for this facility only through RTA's online application system and once registered, the plates will be delivered in 1-2 weeks.
"We are concentrating on making many services online only and this will be one of them. As the plates will be printed abroad in the initial phase, it will take around two weeks for us to deliver them," added Behroozian
Customers will have an option to choose from the existing numbers that they own or purchase a new number, however, they will have to hand in their regular plates before taking deliveries of the special plates.
Behroozian informed that customers having multiple vehicles will have an option of buying a personalised number plate and availing the facility on other vehicles for just a nominal fee.
