RSS launches 2nd phase of TEST project.

Amman, Sept. 11 (Petra)-- The Royal Scientific Society (RSS) on Wednesday launched the second phase of the European Union-funded project "Transfer of Environmentally Sound Technology (TEST)," in cooperation with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to create new opportunities for Jordanian industries. The project aims at implementing the principles of resource efficient and cleaner production (RECP) in various industrial sectors, consultation companies and service providers in Jordan, said Rafat Assi, the RSS's Vice President for Consultations and Studies. Assi stressed the importance of implementing RECP assessment projects in the industrial sector to enhance the efficiency of the national industries through optimizing productivity and reducing the wastes of raw materials, water and energy. The event was attended by representatives of the UNIDO, the EU commission in Jordan, relevant ministries, national institutions and chambers of industry. Addressing the attendees, Assi said such projects help achieve "green growth," and mitigate the challenges the industry faces as a result of water scarcity, supply energy, and support the RSS's goal to promote sustainable development in the Kingdom. UNIDO's TEST approach involves enhancing productivity through practices that lead to greater efficiency in using natural resources, reducing energy consumption, reducing waste, and increasing opportunities for innovation, he added. He also pointed out that the RSS will implement the second phase of the project in partnership with the two chambers of industry and in cooperation with the UNIDO and national focal points from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply and the Ministry of Environment to move forward in implementing the RECP principles in Jordan.
