RSS launches 2nd phase of TEST project, 1st, final add.

The first phase of the project, which was implemented over three years ago, achieved an annual saving of over JOD1.6 million in 12 companies in the food and beverage sector. This resulted in saving over 22,000 MWh/year in energy, over 63,000 m3/year of water, and over 400 tons of raw material, in addition reducing 83 tons of landfilled solid waste production. UNIDO's Chief Technical Advisor, Roberta de Palma, underscored that the TEST methodology offers industrial companies an integrated approach that combines RECP tools, Environmental Management System (EMS) and Material Flow Cost Accounting (MFCA). She said this would help achieve a more sustainable production, better environmental performance for the businesses, while also saving money and allowing businesses to invest and grow sustainably. While UNIDO's Representative in Jordan, Sulafa Mdanat, stated the project is fully in line with both Jordan's national priorities and the sustainable development goal number 9, which focuses on inclusive and sustainable industrialization and fosters innovation. Basel Alnobani, National Focal Point of TEST from the Industry Ministry, said TEST addresses the challenges and obstacles the industries are facing in becoming more resource and energy efficient, and less-polluting. He also highlighted that the approach also boosts the productivity and competitiveness of the industrial sector in Jordan, and increases chance of accessing international markets with good quality products. Alnobani deemed the second phase of the project "a huge step forward" towards a circular economy, noting it will improve patterns of sustainable consumption and production while providing socio-economically positive effects.
