ROYAL CARIBBEAN SHATTERS BOOKING AND CALL VOLUME RECORDS
MIAMI, Jan. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Royal Caribbean Cruise Line announced that between Jan. 4 and 8, the company booked more passengers and handled more calls in a five-day period than ever before in its 22-year history.
Week-to-date figures through Wednesday, Jan. 8 show that 59,691 individual and group passengers booked a Royal Caribbean cruise vacation. A single day record of 11,102 individual passengers were booked on Jan. 8.
Telephone call volume hit record levels with 70,458 calls handled between Jan. 4 and 8. A single day call volume record of 22,451 calls was set on Jan. 6. Over 95 percent of all calls were handled within 20 seconds.
CruiseMatch 2000, Royal Caribbean's automated booking and information system, is currently performing at levels higher than projected. On Jan. 8, a record 587 passengers were booked through the system.
CruiseFax, which allows travel agents to receive booking confirmations and request booking information via facsimile machine, sent a record 12,740 fax responses between Jan. 4 and 8 and set a single day record of 4,179 faxes on Jan. 6.
"We're extraordinarily pleased with the records we have set so far and expect that in coming weeks we will surpass even these impressive numbers," said Roderick K. McLeod, executive vice president of sales, marketing and passenger services. "With 95 percent of calls handled within 20 seconds, we're clearly achieving our goal of providing the industry's best service to travel agents."
Royal Caribbean service to travel agents has never been at higher levels with 95 out of every 100 calls answered within 20 seconds. A recorded message that agents hear if they are not immediately connected with a Royal Caribbean reservations agent informs them that they can also book cruises or request information through CruiseMatch 2000 and CruiseFax.
"We've said all along that neither CruiseMatch 2000 nor CruiseFax was designed to replace the traditional reservations system," McLeod said. "Our foresight in developing alternative booking systems like CruiseMatch 2000 and CruiseFax is proved by the records we've established in the past few days."
With the maiden voyage of the 2-354-passenger Majesty of the Seas on April 26, Royal Caribbean will become the largest cruise brand in the world. Its modern fleet of ships is known as "The Grand Resorts of the Seven Seas," and calls at the most popular ports in the Caribbean, Bermuda, Bahamas, Panama Canal, South America, Mexico, Alaska, Europe, the Mediterranean, Scandinavia, Russia, Africa and the Canary Islands.
