ROYAL CARIBBEAN REPORTS FIRST QUARTER PROFITS

MIAMI, April 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (RCCL) announced today an increase in net income to $20.2 million on revenue of $270.4 million for the first quarter ended April 2, 1993. This compares to net income of $4.4 million on revenue of $215.2 million for the same quarter of 1992.
Revenue increased 25.7 percent over the comparable quarter in 1992. The company's revenue increase is attributable, in part, to a 20.3 percent increase in passenger cruise days as a result of the impact of the introduction of RCCL's new 2,354-passenger mega-ship, Majesty of the Seas in April 1992 and improved fleet yields resulting from the implementation of certain yield management programs.
Operating income for the first quarter was $38.9 million, compared to $22.9 million for the same quarter in 1992, a reflection of continuing economies of scale, higher revenue yields and increased operating margins resulting from improved cost controls.
Royal Caribbean is the world's largest cruise brand and operates nine modern ships with a total double occupancy capacity of 14,228. The Royal Caribbean fleet offers more than 50 different itineraries and calls at nearly 130 destinations in the Mediterranean, Bermuda, Scandinavia, Alaska, Bahamas, Mexico, Panama Canal and the Caribbean.
