ROYAL CARIBBEAN'S MONARCH OF THE SEAS SETS PASSENGER RECORD

ROYAL CARIBBEAN'S MONARCH OF THE SEAS SETS PASSENGER RECORD
MIAMI, July 8 /PRNewswire/ -- On June 28, Royal Caribbean Cruise Line's Monarch of the Seas set the record for most passengers to embark on a single voyage. Royal Caribbean's other two megaships, Sovereign of the Seas and new Majesty of the Seas, are also sailing with high passenger counts.
Royal Caribbean believes Monarch of the Seas' June 28 passenger count of 2,655 breaks the world record for the greatest number of passengers ever to embark on a voyage aboard a modern cruise ship. Documentation of the ship's passenger total is being submitted to the Guinness Book of Records.
The weekend of June 27-28, Sovereign of the Seas sailed with 2,446 passengers, Monarch of the Seas carried 2,655 and Majesty of the Seas embarked 2,615. The three ships averaged a collective occupancy level of over 110 percent.
"When we set out to create a new level of cruising in the three major Caribbean year-round markets by building the world's biggest cruise ships, we knew these vessels would be well-received," said Rod McLeod, Royal Caribbean's executive vice president of sales, marketing and passenger services, "but our megaship trio has exceeded our wildest expectations.
"Sovereign, Monarch and Majesty are the most famous trio of ships since the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria," McLeod added.
By booking more than two passengers per cabin if third or fourth beds are available, cruise lines are able to exceed 100 percent occupancy levels.
The 73,192-ton Sovereign of the Seas sails from Miami every Saturday year-round to the eastern Caribbean. The 73,941-ton Monarch of the Seas offers weekly cruises from San Juan every Sunday year-round to the southern Caribbean. The 73,941-ton Majesty of the Seas sails from Miami every Sunday year-round on cruise vacations through the western Caribbean.
Royal Caribbean's three megaships are part of the company's modern fleet of nine ships. Royal Caribbean pampers passengers with superlative service on vacations to over 100 ports of call on four continents.
